Electronic Health Records Vendor Announces its Product Meets Meaningful Use

ChartLogic EMR is Ready for Stimulus Requirements

ChartLogic, Inc., a leading provider of Electronic Health Records (EHR) to physician practices in the U.S. has announced that their product meets the recently finalized “Meaningful Use” criteria, as set by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. ChartLogic has completed an evaluation of the 864 page final ruling, and determined that their product will allow users to meet the meaningful use requirements.

Released on July 13th, the Meaningful Use Final Ruling replaced an Interim Final Ruling that was initially released on December 30th, 2009. This ruling sets forth the requirements for Eligible Professionals to receive economic stimulus payments for demonstrating meaningful use of certified EHR technology, as made available by the HITECH Act, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The law allows for Medicare and Medicaid providers to receive additional payments when medical providers demonstrate use of the cost-saving EHR technology.

ChartLogic’s EHR solution – a modular based suite of products – includes ChartLogic EMR and ChartLogic PM. The EHR solution has been evaluated against the government’s final ruling, and determined to meet the criteria. ChartLogic has been developing user-friendly ways to implement the requirements for meaningful use since draft versions started appearing in summer of 2009.

“Meaningful use requirements seem to be geared towards point & click (mouse driven) systems which posed a challenge, but one we were excited to meet”, said Eric Sorenson, VP of Marketing at ChartLogic Inc. “We are really different from the rest of the industry. We didn’t want to just meet meaningful use. We wanted to continue to deliver an experience that saves time.”

Bob Dean, ChartLogic VP of Technology agreed: “We didn’t want to lose the user experience just to meet the requirements. Our developers were able to assess the draft requirements, code innovative ways to handle the meaningful use requirements, and then test them against the draft certification scripts and user feedback.” Dean indicated the feedback from users was positive.

Next, ChartLogic will need to certify their product with the government, once a certifying agency is approved by the government. Like all EHR vendors, right now they can only wait to certify. The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) has recently finalized its temporary certification program, and has been soliciting bids to become certifying bodies. They expect multiple certifiers by the end of summer, 2010.

In the interim, the company continues to enhance the meaningful use processes and test its Version 7 upgrade and new meaningful use module.
